De rebus Hispaniae
On De rebus Hispaniae.
This page is a directory to my articles in English. The name is taken from the history of the Iberian peninsula written in Latin by the archbishop of Toledo Rodrigo Jimenez de Rada in the first half of the thirteenth century on behalf of the King -Saint Ferdinand III.
De rebus Hispaniae consists of nine books, which collect the chronicles of the Peninsula from the earliest peoples to the year 1243. Jimenez de Rada used for the first time in the history of Spanish sources from al-Andalus and developed an encompassing view that included not only Castilla, Leon and his predecessors, the kings of Asturias, but also all other kingdoms (Aragon, Navarre and Portugal). It devotes a large part to the Visigoth kingdom, the title of the corresponding chapter, Gothic History, was also extended to the entire book.
This book was very popular and was translated into the various Romance languages. For centuries has been a crucial source for the study of the early history of Spain.
