Arabia Saudita baja “los tipos de interés”

Le llaman «tipos de recompra» (del RGE.):

  • In the wake of such slowdown, Saudi Arabia Monetary Agency (SAMA) cut the key reverse repurchase rate by a quarter of a percentage point on April 14. The rate was reduced to 0.5%, and the cut is effective immediately. The repurchase rate was left at 2 percent.
  • Saudi Arabia previously cut its repurchase rate to 2 percent form 2.5 percent and its reverse repurchase rate to 0.75 percent on Jan 19. Inflation stood at 7.9% in January 09, falling from 9% a month earlier.
  • SAMA has lowered its repo rate by 100bps to 3% and reduced its cash reserve requirement on demand deposits by 300bps to 7%, following a cut from 13% to 10% in October in a bid to support domestic liquidity
  • While SAMA’s interest rate policies must roughly track US policy rates given the Riyal’s dollar peg, it has had some flexibility in which rates to cut this year. Initially it cut only the reverse repo rate. A decline in commodity prices, a strengthening of the US dollar (and the Saudi riyal) against most major currencies, has reduced inflationary pressure which reached a four month low of 10.4% in September despite the fact that Ramadan likely includes a seasonal inflation spike (EIU)
