That said, if everything David Dalin says is based on facts (and I have no doubt it is) the question remains why Pius XII didn’t excommunicate Hitler. Dalin’s argument, at least according to my modest opinion, doesn’t hold water. The fact that the Catholic Church let Hitler stay a Catholic, even if only a nominal one, remains the one big stain on its and its Pope’s reputation.
Sin embargo, se trata de una valoración moral, no política: la excomunión no se consideró prudente. Como tampoco se consideró prudente bombardear las vías de tren que conducían a los campos de exterminio, por poner un ejemplo. ¿Que hizo esa prensa norteamericana que ahora fiscaliza a otros para dar a conocer el asunto? ¿Que hicieron los judíos norteamericanos por los de su raza? ¿Que hicieron tantos Adornos y Horkheimers aparte de salvar su propio pellejo?
